Challenge
Operating in the Lagos region of Nigeria, Sonergy faced relentless environmental challenges, including intense heat and a prolonged six-month rainy season. These harsh conditions severely disrupted fabrication processes for offshore oil platform sections, forcing crews to repeatedly halt work, cover materials, and redo tasks such as sandblasting and painting. Additionally, steel shot and grit were stored outdoors in vulnerable bags that were frequently exposed to moisture due to torn packaging, leading to material waste, increased costs, and reduced productivity. The inability to maintain a controlled, weather-protected environment created inefficiencies that made it difficult for Sonergy to meet production timelines and scale operations.
Solution
To overcome these obstacles, Sonergy partnered with Big Top to design, manufacture, and install two large, custom-engineered fabric structures measuring 90’ x 80’ and standing 45’ tall. These structures provided a weather-resistant environment that allowed fabrication work to continue uninterrupted, regardless of heavy rain or extreme heat. Large access end panels allow for the seamless movement of massive platform sections in and out of the workspace. Durable fabric contains steel abrasive media, protecting materials while maintaining a clean and efficient work area. As a result, Sonergy significantly improved operational efficiency, reduced material loss, and accelerated production, enabling the company to fabricate offshore platform sections at an unprecedented pace.
