Challenge

As construction progressed on Panasonic Energy’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Plant in De Soto, Kansas, the project required workspace to support the carpentry activities taking place on site. With a project of this scale, crews needed an area where materials could be stored, prepared, cut, and assembled while remaining protected from changing weather conditions. A centralized carpentry facility would allow crews to organize tools and materials, prepare components, and complete daily work without disrupting other construction activities. Bringing these operations into one designated area would also help create a more organized and efficient environment for crews working throughout the project. The shop also needed an open interior capable of accommodating multiple workstations, equipment, material storage, and the movement of personnel throughout the facility. The challenge was creating a durable, functional workspace that could support the project’s ongoing carpentry needs throughout construction.

Solution

To support carpentry operations at Panasonic Energy’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Plant, Big Top provided a 70-foot-wide by 120-foot-long fabric structure, creating 8,400 square feet of dedicated workspace. The open interior provides ample room for specialized workstations, tools, equipment, material storage, and the movement of personnel throughout the shop. Dedicated areas for table saws, miter saws, material preparation, and other carpentry activities allow crews to organize different stages of work within one centralized facility. A large overhead door provides convenient access for moving materials and equipment in and out of the structure, while the translucent fabric allows natural light to enter the workspace and works alongside artificial lighting to provide consistent illumination for daily operations. The fabric structure also provides reliable protection from changing weather conditions, helping keep workers, tools, and materials protected while on the job. This centralized workspace helps Panasonic Energy’s construction workforce keep carpentry operations organized, accessible, and efficient throughout the project.
