Challenge
With a large fleet of vehicles operating across the United States, Amazon implemented an Automated Vehicle Inspection (AVI) program to streamline the vehicle inspection process and improve operational efficiency. By reducing the time devoted to assessing each vehicle, Amazon is able to keep its fleet moving and support efficient delivery operations.
However, implementing the AVI program created a need for reliable infrastructure. The specialized, advanced equipment involved in AVI operations was not designed for continuous outdoor exposure. At the same time, Amazon could not risk a solution that would slow down its fleet or interfere with the efficiency the AVI program was designed to provide.
Amazon needed more than a standard shelter. The solution needed to be cost-effective, quick to implement, durable, and, most importantly, designed around the specific requirements of the AVI equipment and Amazon’s vehicle operations.
Solution
That’s where Big Top came into play. After discussing the project and understanding the requirements of Amazon’s AVI program, the Big Top team designed a custom structure around the operation and engineered it for the specific conditions of the site.
At 33 feet wide and 50 feet long, the more than 1,600-square-foot structure provides the space needed to house and protect Amazon’s specialized AVI equipment while allowing vehicles to move efficiently through the inspection process. The clear-span design creates a column-free environment, providing an unobstructed path for vehicles and the flexibility to position inspection equipment around the operation.
