Wash-Down Fabric Structures
As a testament to the versatility of tensioned fabric shelters from Big Top Manufacturing, a newer model is available that has been engineered to be used as a wash-down structure.
This development began with a custom request from the United States Marine Corps, and it worked so well that a standard design was produced that incorporates wash racks not unlike those used in car washes.
Tented Vehicle Washing in a Fabric Enclosure
Tensioned fabric buildings are designed similarly to tents, but the materials used are much stronger and more durable. These structures can be built over 160 feet wide and over 70 feet high, which is more than enough to accommodate the largest motorized ground vehicles.
Once the basic building is erected, which takes less than a day for most wash-down structures, the wash racks are installed on either side. These racks spray high-pressure water and cleaning agents into the center of the structure where the vehicle sits. Because it is a drive-through fabric building, it does not use end walls, and the sidewalls are raised off the ground to allow for natural venting and air-drying.
Benefits of Big Top Wash-Down Fabric Structures
Big Top wash-down fabric structures are an extremely affordable alternative to car washes made of concrete or other solid materials. These buildings are supported by a steel framework that has been hot-dipped in zinc to make it corrosion resistant, which is very important in an environment with such high levels of moisture and humidity.
The walls of the structure are made of water-resistant fabric that is stretched over and secured to the frame. This design is so strong that it can withstand winds of over 100 mph and can hold up to 40 lbs. of snow per square foot. In addition, the fabric is translucent so that electric lights are not required during the day, but many customers opt to install one of our custom electrical systems for added visibility and the options to use when natural light is no longer an option.
Installation of the fabric structure is very simple and can be completed by unskilled laborers on any type of foundation. However, for best results with a wash-down unit, a concrete foundation is recommended. If the structure is no longer needed, it can be broken down into its component parts for storage or wheeled to another location without having to be dismantled.
Fabric Structures Support Optional Equipment
In addition to the wash racks, the fabric structure can accommodate many other types of optional equipment, including the following:
- Electrical systems
- HVAC systems
- Lighting fixtures
- Blow dryers
- Lightning protection
