Challenge

S&B Modular Operations needed a high-quality structure that could efficiently support its growing operations. As demand for its modular fabrication services continued to grow, S&B Modular Operations needed additional covered production space to support expanding operations. While the company had available land at its Texas facility, constructing a traditional permanent building would require a significant investment of time and capital. S&B needed a solution that could provide protection from unpredictable weather conditions, and accommodate large-scale fabrication activities to quickly increase production capacity without disrupting ongoing operations.

Solution

To meet this need, the company selected a Big Top container-mounted structure. Big Top designed and installed a custom 85′ x 280′ x 38′ fabric structure, providing approximately 24,000 square feet of clear-span production space. The stacked shipping containers beneath the structure added an additional 4,480 square feet that could be utilized for offices, tool rooms, storage of materials and parts, and training rooms. The new assembly bay was designed to accommodate cranes, a 100-ton mobile gantry, drive-through access, and large-scale module fabrication activities. In addition to maximizing usable workspace, the structure provides year-round protection from sun, wind, and rain, helping maintain productivity in changing weather conditions. The translucent fabric roof allows natural daylight to illuminate the interior, reducing reliance on artificial lighting, while the clear-span design eliminates interior columns to ensure the entire space remains available for production.
